Restless. I want to go somewhere but I can't think of anywhere to go. Don't want to write. Finished the Stephen King [excellent, btw]. Was looking at my hair products and got a little sad. It'll come back, it'll come back. In six months - I hope they don't get all goopy before then. Maybe I'll just take a run to Target. Exciting, no? Aw, fuck, I'm old. Ten years ago I would have been getting ready to go to Pulse, but I don't go to clubs anymore.

My mom is coming for a visit on June 4. That's the day after my last chemo, and I'll probably have to go for radiation soon after, so the timing is kind of sucky. But it'll be nice to see her. Then [livejournal.com profile] yaoichick is coming mid-July, so that will be awesome. Woot. Hope I'll have some energy to do stuff. I'll still have to stay out of the sun [because of chemo drugs I have to play vampire for the next couple of months] but hopefully we can find things that don't require us to be outside. I've already taken her to the Nuclear Science museum, which is pretty cool, so we need new places to go. We've been to Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Madrid...we'll figure something out. Or just hang out and watch Japanese boylove movies. :D

I had my performance evaluation on Thursday and got a lot of "exceeds." I suspect I got a pity boost, but not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I hope to return to work in July. I need structure. When I was first recovering from surgery and going to chemo I didn't care about the time off because I needed it and felt like shit, but now - I definitely need to go back to work.

Except now I have no work wardrobe. And not really sure how to build one now. I got a couple of really swank shirts and a couple of pairs of work-worthy trousers, but I'm at that interstitial stage where I'm too old for stuff like Simply Be, as pretty as a lot of it is, and too young for...I dunno, Chico's or whatever. I went to J. Jill to look at clothes, but it's too expensive and too granola for me. Lane Bryant is a polyester nightmare, and their clothes are so poorly made. Avenue stuff is mostly gross and cheap [although I have a couple of good bras from there]. I have a couple of maxidresses from last year that still look okay if I wear a jacket over them. I've had good luck at the thrift store, so fuck it, maybe I'll wear thrift store clothes for the rest of my life. I'm all right with that.

I watched every Office episode on Netflix. I still want to screw Dwight Schrute.

Anyway - a statistics meme I snaked from a couple of people. Is this a thing? Since I only have 9 fics posted at AO3, there's no point in doing the five lowest/highest. I'll put it behind a cut so you don't have to look at it. I would not blame you if you didn't.

There's always the Potato Museum. LOL And shopping at L'Occitane! Definitely Japanese boys love (see icon) Well, any Asian movies with pretty boys/men is fine by me. *waggles eyebrows*

Sooooo looking forward to it!!!

Our director shops at Goodwill and makes great finds, so the Thrift Store is a totally sensible choice. :)

XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

P.S. Will catch up tomorrow if my internet is still working. We've been having intermittent outages of our home phone/DSL. Again! P.P.S. My nephew's grad party today was very nice.

The Potato museum! I knew there was something. :D And Lush just opened up right next to L'Occitane. Hold me back. :D

Oh, pretty, pretty icon. Is that from the high school one?

I'm all for thrift shopping. Sometimes I find really nice stuff. I got a gorgeous tucked white shirt there. Suckage about internet, but yay for a good party!

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Finally internet! The modem has been blinking RED all day. Grrrrrr.

Lush and L'Occitane next to each other! Be still my heart!!

Yep, the icon is from the Takumi-kun series that takes place at an all boys high school. *purrs*

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Ann Taylor Loft? I've had mixed luck with them, but you might find something, and they sometimes have good sales. Or Christopher Banks, if they're out by you.

Glad you're feeling like going back to work--that's really great. And you should see Chat's hair--she complains about it, but it's adorable. Yours will probably come back just as nicely.

They don't carry plus sizes - as far as I know. At this point I might be able to fit into an XL shirt, but pants, no way.

Yes, it's good to have energy again! I love Chat's hair. She's a doll. Interested to see what mine will look like - all grey, I suspect.

Oh, right, sorry. Hmm, maybe thrift stores are the way to go for a while. I wish all stores just carried all sizes; life would be so much easier.

I've actually had really good luck at thrift stores lately, so I'm not as fazed as I sound. :) It'll all work out.

Wish I could go shopping with you! That's quite an impressive list od achievements on AO3! *hugs*

I do too! And thank you - not much compared to some people, I mean seriously, they have like 10,000 kudos, but I'm not complaining. I'm happy for whatever I get.

Oh, dang. Don't be too old for Simply Be! That mean's I'm too old for Simply Be and I don't want to be!! ;p

Some of it's so pretty [and sophisticated] but the summer catalog was mostly stuff you'd wear to Coachella or something, yknow? I can't wear that stuff. :-/

From: [identity profile] shakesmears.livejournal.com
I'm sure you're not too old for anything... I looked at Simply Be and would suggest that the stuff there would be great if you teamed it with leggings (a non-skinny girls best friend) and light cardigans and other layers, scarves and jewellery. That way you can wear pretty dresses but leggings make them feel like tunics and are also really comfortable to wear. Then you can switch footwear to get dfferent looks as well - flats, boots, sandals. Go Bohemian :o)

Most of it just isn't my style anymore. I wore those kind of flowery dresses back in the days o'grunge, but I think I would feel like a twit in them now. Not that they're not still pretty, but I don't think I could pull them off. I gravitate toward more simple and tailored things now.

I'm shyte for clothing suggestions and Thalia already mentioned my only suggestion, being Ann Taylor. Resale is my fallback. I manage to find some great stuff. JC Penney has actually had an offering or two for me in the past, as well.

Glad you're feeling like getting back to work. Structure can be a powerful thing. It's why I don't think I could ever work from home. Good on you, babe. :)

Yeah, I think I'll stick with thrift shop for the moment. I've had some really good finds, and I've always been a careful shopper, so should be okay. :D

Thank you! And yes, I totally agree. If I worked from home I'd do nothing but watch TV and eat, I swear.

You could look at onestopplus.com... I find nice things there occasionally, and they do run sales, and it's a combination of 5 or 6 other clothing retailers in the same place. You have to look for the nice stuff amidst the crap, but they do have a tolerable return policy. The quality is hit-or-miss.

I've gotten a couple of decent things from there in the past. Maybe I'll have a look. Thank you.

Fantastic that you are wanting to get back to work. I'd stick with a small wardrobe that you can accessorize. Hope your Target run was successful. *smooch*

I relied so much on my old wardrobe, and I gave most of it away and my closet looks so empty, but maybe it's time to be more judicious.

Yes, I got my Claritin and other sundries. Yay for Target. :D *smooch*

I watched every Office episode on Netflix. I still want to screw Dwight Schrute.

Um. Me too. He is totally my favorite character. *runs away*

And whoa, so many hits and things on your stories! Congrats! :)

He is just so freakin hot, isn't he? In his Dwight-ey way. :D

Thank you! AO3 has become my one-stop story place. I don't really read any other site anymore.

Look up the sales at large department stores (Macy's, Nordstroms) near you, aiming to get a nice tailored jacket or two. These hide a multitude of sins. (Ralph Lauren makes women blazers that are really nice.)

Yes, a smart tailored jacket will be good for fall/winter. Good idea.

I have no intention of being dowdy. I'm not capable of it. *snaps fingers in a Z formation* I've found some pretty cool stuff at the thrift store, and I have a million scarves and lots of costume jewelry, so I can work with what I've got for now.

Can't offer any clothing or store suggestions (those may be the last thing I have any knowledge of) but I wish you luck in finding what you need for rebuilding your work wardrobe. And congrats on the performance eval!

Thank you! I was surprised at the eval.

I found some nice pieces at the thrift store. Took a while, but I was patient and it paid off. :D
