He felt like a cosmic match girl, forever in the cold, his face pressed against the glass, freezing as he watched the revels.

struck ridiculously close to home. The whole thing is just charming, all the getting-to-know you/this-is-a-huge-mistake anxiety coupled with holiday malaise. This is a really sweet piece, thank you for posting it!
