Oh, thank goodness for this wonderful chapter. I can now get rid of that mental image of poor Jamie writhing in pain from that bayonet. Glad to see his parents showing a bit of humanity at this point. And Jim, dear Jim. Loved the shaving scene (though I really was hoping you'd get rid of that dreadful 'stache. Anything that covers up that cupid's-bow lip is a crime). It's very touching the way they each try to reassure the other whenever there are doubts about their relationship, and I'm hoping you'll let us read parts of those letters from Jim that Jamie is finally getting to see. Yes, a wonderful chapter until that last sentence and the appearance of the dreaded Philip. Poor Jamie, from an infected stab wound to having to deal with the 'heir apparent'. He'll be wondering which is worse.
