Charles had an irritating habit of gradually usurping Julien’s side of the bed until Julien was forced to cling to the edge like a limpet on a rock. Why he’d never noticed this before, Julien couldn’t possibly fathom. It must have been romantic fancy, he decided ruefully. The truth of domestic habitation was hardly bliss from morning until night. It was, in fact, rather mundane and sometimes annoying. Clothes slung haphazardly over the backs of chairs, shoes left hither and yon, noisy slurping of tea, snoring, belching, scratching, breaking wind – scarcely the idyll of dreams.
Julien picked up Charles’ shirt from the floor and hung it on the bedpost, then climbed into bed. Charles was already half asleep, and had already begun his unconscious migration. “Charles, for the love of God. Move over.”
Obligingly, Charles shifted and wrapped an arm round Julien’s waist, pulling him close. “Sorry, laddie mine,” he murmured sleepily. He brushed Julien’s hair from the nape of his neck, kissing up to his ear. His roughly shaven chin scraped against Julien’s skin. “You’re like ice. Shall I warm you?”
“If you please,” Julien whispered, and abandoned himself to Charles’ touch.
Everyday life had its compensations after all.
End.

Wonderful as always, dearest Alex.
