*sigh* brilliant. the characterization is not only spot on, but goes so much beyond either of them, so much between the lines. such rich visuals and touchable details woven throughout makes this feel novelesque. i adore alec's forced restraint at the end, and his final comment. i'm sure nikolai felt both parts a shock of fear and the warmth of relief.
